Growth on Horizon for Ithaca Home Performance Firm

- Greg Thomas, president of Performance Systems Development and Performance Systems Contracting, announced today a financial partnership that will allow the Ithaca company to grow in response to expanding opportunities in the green energy industry. Performance Systems recently reached an agreement with Laurel Ridge Asset Management, a New York City-based firm that manages over $120 million in investment funds.

"This investment is the springboard we've been waiting for," said company president Greg Thomas, who has helped establish the concept of improving the energy efficiency and overall performance of buildings.

PSD approved by NYSERDA as a Multifamily Performance Program (MPP) Partner

- Performance Systems Development (PSD) has been approved by NYSERDA as a Multifamily Performance Partner in the new Multifamily Performance Program (MPP), which is the successor to the Assisted Multifamily Program (AMP).

Through the Existing Buildings Component, PSD's role as the MPP Partner is to develop, and help to implement, a scope of work that will improve the project's energy performance by 20%.  This performance target is determined by using NYSERDA's Benchmarking Tool, which compares the building's current actual energy consumption to that of other, similar multifamily buildings.

Head of Ithaca firm featured in HUD energy webcast

- Greg Thomas, president Performance Systems Development, spoke with a small group of colleagues from around the country in a webcast sponsored by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) on Thursday, May 17, 2007. The webcast focused on energy efficiency improvements for high-rise and multi-family housing units.

Maine Pilots Whole House Energy Efficiency

- Performance Systems Development (PSD) is pleased to announce that they have been awarded a three year contract by the Maine Office of Energy Independence and Security to administer Maine's Whole House Energy Efficiency Pilot Program. As the Program Implementation Administrator, PSD will develop and implement this residential energy retrofit program for the Maine pilot marketplace. Working with PSD will be Rick Karg of R.J. Karg Associates; a Maine-based, nationally-recognized building science trainer and consultant. Other contractors supporting this effort include: Bevilacqua Knight Inc. (BKi), Vermont Energy Investment Corporation and Intermountain Energy.

PSD Products OTTER and TREAT receive recognition from ACEEE

- An excerpt from the ACEEE Report:
In the spring of 2005, ACEEE initiated a national search for "exemplary" utility-funded low-income energy efficiency programs as part of a project to identify and profile programs that provide models of "best practices" for addressing the energy needs of low-income households.

Green Building and Green Contracting Presentations

- PSD's president, Gregory Thomas presented on the award winning EcoVillage at Ithaca green building community where PSD provided green consulting for the first neighborhood ( Presentation, Paper) and HVAC installation services for the second neighborhood. Mr. Thomas also presented a new presentation on the Greening of a Home Performance Contractor. This presentation was based on activities of Performance Systems Contracting and will also be covered in a feature article in Home Energy Magazine in the May/June 2005 issue (Green Contracting Download).

- Gregory Thomas, President, and Jerone Gagliano, Building Performance Engineer, of Performance Systems Development LLC., have just returned from the Greenbuild Expo, the largest green building conference in the world. The conference is the annual event of the US Green Building Council (www.usgbc.org), and showcases the organization's LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building rating system.

Home Performance Contractor Survey Released

- PSD, in cooperation with BKi, has completed work on a California Energy Commission funded report on the business and technical practices of successful home performance contractors. Results of this report have been presented at a number of conferences including EEBA, Affordable Comfort, ACEEE Summer Study, and others. The report includes recommendations for programs looking to establish home performance programs and for contractors looking to get into the business.

Greg Thomas speaks at NBM

- Gregory Thomas, President of Performance Systems, spoke at the National Building Museum on "Industrializing the Process of Producing Energy Savings" on January 27th, 2004. The talk was sponsored by the US Department of Energy as part of the Building for the 21st Century lecture series. The talk addressed the process of creating cost effective feedback systems for energy savings including a discussion of design of the data flow and feedback systems being developed by Performance Systems as part of TREAT and TREAT tracker.

PSD’s and Taitem Engineering’s TREAT software has been approved by the Department of Energy Weatherization Assistance Program for use in single family, multifamily, and mobile homes. TREAT has also passed its BESTest requirements for use as a Home Energy Rating Tool and has been providing energy ratings since April 2003.
