Greg Thomas to Chair New RESNET Working Group on Software Standards

August 9, 2010 Ithaca, NY

Performance Systems Development’s Greg Thomas will chair a new RESNET Working Group on Comprehensive Retrofit Audit Software Standard. The group, composed of representatives from national laboratories and leading modeling software developers, was created to address an immediate need in the marketplace for residential retrofit software modeling tools that have both tested physics engines and interfaces that allow consistent and accurate modeling of a wide range of energy retrofits.

“The work of our group will allow RESNET to provide clear guidance to the market on how to develop software using strong physics engines that can consistently pass a strong retrofit calculation test,” says Thomas.

The tests and supporting documents will allow RESNET to quickly put in place a standard for existing residential retrofit software that could confidently be referenced by state and local programs nationally. The retrofit software testing standard process may be refined and enhanced over time. The RESNET working group will engage the Building Performance Institute, Efficiency First and the U.S. Department of Energy in this effort.
