Benchmarking Software

The Benchmarking Tool is an interactive energy management tool that allows for the tracking and assessment of energy consumption in buildings of all size, or across an entire portfolio of buildings. It is a very useful tool to benchmark building energy performance, assess energy management goals over time, and identify strategic opportunities for savings.

It allows the benchmarking of facilities relative to other buildings, or benchmarking a building relative to its own past performance. Statistically representative models are used to compare any building against similar buildings.

Three scores are produced:

  • EPA Portfolio Manager ENERGY STAR Score
  • Source Energy Measure (absolute and MMBTU per square foot)
  • Carbon Footprint Measure (absolute and lbs per square foot)

The Benchmarking Tool offers valuable insights to facilities management:

  • Establishes standard against which to measure progress
  • Provides “apples to apples” comparison among buildings
  • Helps identify the key drivers of energy use
  • Enables prioritization among buildings
  • Provides a basis for gauging eligibility for incentives
  • Multi-building data entry/upload to automatically transpose utility account information into usable data.
  • Improvement tracking against flexible baseline
  • Carbon footprint measurement
  • Flexibility in the use of steam conversion factor (for non-PM scoring)
  • Improved time tracking against an original baseline
  • Quality assurance of the underlying dataset
  • Direct interface with EPA’s Portfolio Manager via XML
  • Reports reflecting energy savings over time - easy comparisons among buildings in a portfolio.
  • Allows for the export to various tools for normalization, disaggregation and further analysis
