Greg Thomas, CEO
Gregory Thomas has thirty years experience in building performance, as a consultant, trainer, heating contractor, home performance contractor, director of an energy service company, energy and green building conference planner, as well as an energy program designer, implementer, and energy software developer. He built a blower door and started offering whole house audits in 1979. Greg was the first blower door trainer for the low income weatherization programs in Pennsylvania and New York.
He is past president of Affordable Comfort Inc., the residential existing homes energy efficiency conference and served on the Affordable Comfort board for over 15 years. He currently chairs Efficiency First, the home performance contractor trade association. He was the founder of the Building Performance Contractors Association of New York. He has been educational program director for a number of national and international conferences, including the USGBC Greenbuild Expo, the Financing Residential Energy Efficiency Conference, and the international Sustainable Steel Conference. He was the ACEEE 2009 Summer Study residential program design track co-chair, and has been elected to the RESNET Board of Directors for a term beginning in 2010.
Mr. Thomas has served as an advisor to a wide range of national and state entities including: the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, the US DOE Weatherization Assistance Program, the Energy Foundation and the California Energy Commission. Mr. Thomas designed and managed the first Home Performance program in the country in 1995. He was recognized by US EPA, DOE and HUD for his contributions to the development of the national Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program in 2005. He was a winner of the 2005 R&D 100 Award for energy efficiency software design. As the executive director of a not-for-profit energy services company he was responsible for the development and implementation of the first utility low income multifamily energy performance contract, a $12M retrofit of over 7000 affordable housing apartments.
Mr. Thomas is a frequent contributor to various publications and a presenter at conferences. Mr. Thomas was a featured speaker at the National Building Museum, addressing the application of the total quality management process to the creation of predictable energy savings. Mr. Thomas attended Marietta College and the Cornell University College of Engineering.
Scott von Kleeck, President and Chief Operating Officer
Scott von Kleeck is a seasoned technology executive, and draws on his depth of experience and expertise to enhance PSD’s technical solution leadership and accelerate our software development capabilities.
Prior to joining PSD, Mr. von Kleeck served Chief Information Officer and Chief of Staff for TCIM Services, a company providing outsourced services for Fortune 100 financial service and telecommunications customers. At TCIM, he was responsible for overall management of the company’s worldwide IT infrastructure, software development, information security, program implementation, customer reporting, backend operations and quality assurance.
Mr. von Kleeck has also served as CIO of Enerwise Global Technologies, Inc., where he was responsible for the construction and operation of revenue generating products as well as the successful technical operation of the company’s corporate back office and customer service systems, networking infrastructure and Internet-based applications for energy related services. He also created and managed systems efforts in some of the world’s best companies including The Vanguard Group, Hewlett Packard and Bell Laboratories. Additionally, Mr. von Kleeck has experience in high growth spin-offs and start-ups where he managed technology initiatives for major Internet-based businesses, the Unix operating system, and several brokerage subsidiaries.
Whitman Fulton, Chief Strategy Officer
Whit Fulton is a market strategist with over thirteen years of experience developing energy efficiency, renewable power, and consumer smart grid systems. He has a passion for building compelling, environmentally sustainable offerings by combining emergent and disruptive technologies with new business models. His particular focus is in understanding how people conceptualize, consume, value, and interact with energy in their daily lives, and how new technologies for both producing and understanding energy will create new markets for traditional and emerging providers.
At Performance Systems, Whit leads the Products division, where he is responsible for overall success of company’s energy efficiency software, managing the product development, marketing and business development, sales, and deployment functions. He coordinates closely with the CEO and other division heads to guide corporate strategy and bring new products to market.
Prior to his work at Performance Systems, Whit held senior managerial positions in other clean technology companies. At Gridpoint, a smart grid startup, he led consulting engagements with utility clients to help evaluate costs and benefits of cutting-edge distributed generation, energy management, and demand response applications. At consulting firm ICF International, he managed the renewable energy and emissions market modeling team, performing electricity market assessment and forecasting in support of due diligence for multi-billion dollar portfolio transactions. He is highly knowledgeable in energy management technologies as well as regulatory and energy market trends.
Pauline Warren, Vice President, Enterprise Sales
Pauline Warren is an award-winning executive charged with all facets of delivering sales growth for Performance Systems Development’s innovative energy efficiency software, including sales strategy, developing new market segments, and managing the existing client base. Pauline has an extensive background in sales, business development, and marketing for both domestic and international technology organizations. She has delivered record-breaking sales growth, and has vast experience with leading technology providers such as Siemens, DEC, and Avaya. Most recently, Ms. Warren was Vice President of Business Development for ACS, Inc., a Xerox Company. While there, she led the capture effort for strategic accounts in the public sector and opened a new multi-million dollar market initiative for benefit plans outsourcing.
In addition to leading US telecommunication companies, Pauline has had equal success with early stage, venture-backed companies, including securing the first $2M in revenue and negotiating a 3-year multimillion contract for VoteHere, Inc. an e-voting encryption technology provider.
Pauline’s extensive experience spans the globe, including a two-year assignment in Asia with Siemens and has managed business development initiatives in Europe, Asia, Latin and North America.
A native of Belfast, Northern Ireland, Pauline holds a BA in Business Administration and Marketing from the University of Ulster. Pauline also holds dual American and British citizenship.
Eric Woods, Chief Technology Officer
Eric Woods has been developing software specific to energy efficiency and renewable energy for fifteen years. His commitment to the environment and background in software have driven his career in developing web projects, software applications, and interactive media for organizations intent on environmental sustainability. At Performance Systems, he is responsible for software architecture and planning, staff management, and project management for all software and web applications. He is a strong proponent of agile development and domain driven design, and has championed agile management techniques throughout the company. He is an expert in the architecture, design, and implementation of web-based carbon calculators and online energy tracking tools.
Prior to his work at Performance Systems, Eric was the president and principal programmer of Sunnywood Designs, a web development company providing services to companies specializing in sustainable development and renewable energy. He developed carbon and energy tools for World Resources Institute, The Nature Conservancy, Al Gore, Energy Federation Incorporated, and numerous other not-for-profits, businesses, and government agencies.
Eric's work with renewable energy and software began at the Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology (CREST), developing interactive CD-ROMs for green building and renewable energy projects, including SolarSizer (solar system design tool), The Greening of the White House, and Green Developments (with the Rocky Mountain Institute). At CREST he helped build the first online carbon footprint calculator, Home Energy Checkup, available in 1996. Eric graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and magna cum laude with a B.A. in Physics from Reed College.
Chris Balbach, Vice President, Research and Development
Chris Balbach is an expert in using energy modeling and analysis software to analyze the investment potential of existing buildings, with a focus on energy efficiency, building durability and occupant health and safety. Chris is proficient with over 20 different energy modeling tools, and works closely with our internal software development team to incorporate improvements to PSD's modeling tools. His experience in developing integrated energy designs and depth of knowledge in energy analysis supports the technical underpinnings of PSD's software tools, and he is a key participant in our software compliance testing.
Through Performance Systems Academy, Chris provides detailed training on energy modeling tools, including TREAT, eQuest, and using energy modeling tools for improvement-driven modeling. Chris' unique approach to analyzing investment uncertainty within the energy simulation process provides Performance Systems Academy with techniques for training energy modelers that when combined with M&V (measurement and verification) efforts can lead to market transformation in energy efficiency. Chris has achieved Level 3 CMVP trainer credentials through Efficiency Valuation Organization (EVO).
He is a corresponding participant for several ASHRAE committees: TC4.7 - Energy Calculations, GPC14 - Guidelines for Determining Energy and Water Savings, SPC155 - Determining Seasonal Boiler Efficiency, TC7.6 - Energy Systems Utilization. Chris is a Certified Energy Manager, Certified M&V Professional, licensed Professional Engineer, and a LEED Accredited Professional.
Before coming to Performance Systems, Chris designed large mechanical systems for institutional buildings, including public school buildings throughout New York and New Jersey. He was also an Applications Engineer for a major OEM motor manufacturer.
Conrad Metcalfe, Vice President, Structured Knowledge
Conrad Metcalfe is a certified Building Analyst with 15 years of success in a wide variety of industries. He has extensive curriculum development experience as well as creation and management of classroom, computer-based training, and asynchronous distance learning programs. He has designed and facilitated technical training for network engineers at Cisco Systems. He has created multi-level certification programs for a major manufacturer. In conjunction with a major healthcare company, he rolled-out a comprehensive distance learning program for physicians nationwide. He recently managed the development of curriculum for the California Energy Commission-funded "energy audit protocol" development project.
Conrad also developed his own off-grid solar and wind-powered systems before starting with PSD in 2003 to support the development of the Building Performance Systems Advantage (BPSA) curriculum. Conrad is a driving force behind the Climate Change Action Group of central New York. He is working with like-minded organizations around the country to encourage municipalities to adopt carbon mitigation resolutions, and to enact strategies that promote energy efficiency.
Ethan MacCormick, Vice President, Services to Energy Businesses
Ethan MacCormick has a unique background as both a builder and software developer. As PSD's VP of Services to Energy Businesses, Ethan supports both contracting and consulting activities for Performance Systems. He is a certified HERS Rater, an approved HERS trainer and a BPI-certified Building Analyst, Test Proctor, and Super-Proctor. He co-authored the 2005/2007 rewrite of the Northeast HERS Alliance Energy Rating Manual. Before that, he built custom homes with a focus on energy efficiency. Ethan serves on a number of boards and committees for the ratings industry, both regionally and nationally. As a leading building science expert, Ethan is also one of our most effective trainers.
Kathy Greely, Vice President, Programs
Kathleen Greely is Performance System Development’s (PSD) Program Manager for the PA Home Energy program, a statewide residential energy efficiency program for new and existing homes. Since its inception in 2007, Kathy has led the development and successful growth of this program. She has overseen coordination of contractor training and development of the program reporting and quality assurance systems, and managed program funding allocation and a growing staff responsible for program delivery.
Kathy has been actively involved in the development of the residential energy efficiency and green building industry in Pennsylvania, and has served as the co-chair of the Northwest Pennsylvania Branch of the Green Building Alliance. Prior to joining PSD in 2007, Kathy served as the Director of the Commonwealth Community Energy Project (CCEP) of the Pennsylvania Environmental Council. During this time, she designed and implemented CCEP’s program of home energy ratings in rental and owner-occupied housing, and worked with regional partners to design an energy loan program for the Met-Ed/Penelec Sustainable Energy Fund. Her strong track record of developing successful partnerships and industry-leading programs include: co-creation, with the PA DEP, of a program on energy management for religious congregations; co-ordination of a multi-organizational effort to establish a regional solar installation and biomass assessment program; as well as assisting with numerous outreach efforts for community groups, schools, nonprofits, and other sectors.
Before establishing CCEP, Kathy worked with Virginia Polytechnic Institute to evaluate and redesign the state’s weatherization program, and also with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, where her research focused on the measured savings and cost-effectiveness of energy-efficiency projects. Kathy became a RESNET-certified home energy (HERS) rater in 1999, and earned her BPI Building Analyst 1 certification in 2007. She has an M.S. in Energy and Resources from the University of California at Berkeley and a B.A. in Physics and Mathematics from La Salle College.
Rich Andrulis, Software Design Manager
Rich Andrulis is responsible for defining requirements, product design, and rollout of our software tools. He is a key participant on the sales and marketing planning team for our software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications.
Rich leverages more than ten years of experience as a development architect at SAP to provide a structured methodology and standardized approach to providing input to both the development team and sales teams on product strategy and marketing. During his time at SAP, Rich was a key architect for custom-developed web applications in diverse industries, including Professional Services, Aerospace, Apparel & Footwear, Mill Products, and Consumer Goods. He was a project coordinator for a globally distributed team and incorporated new technologies to succeed at several technically difficult projects.
Rich also served as a trainer at SAP, teaching courses in Java, object-oriented analysis and design, profitability analysis, and cost controlling. He has also taught courses in electrical engineering, mathematics, and physics courses at Cornell University, the University of Oklahoma, and West Chester University. Rich received a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University and a BS in Engineering Science from Penn State.
Jerone Gagliano, Director of Energy Engineering Services
Jerone Gagliano has extensive building performance experience including home performance energy audits and contracting and ASHRAE Level II & III energy audits on commercial and multifamily buildings. He is a frequent presenter at national conferences including GreenBuild, ACI, and ACEEE, and has served on technical panels such as DOE’s national evaluation of WAP, and the DOE Clean Energy Roadshow. In addition to delivering auditor accreditation and energy modeling software trainings, Jerone provided technical consulting services on a 3-year long cost-benefit evaluation of green multifamily housing. As a strong proponent of utilizing cost-effective techniques for energy audits, he considers building retrofits as a financial and societal investment from start to finish.
Jerone received a B.S. Mechanical Engineering and a M.S. Materials Science and Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and is a licensed Professional Engineer, a LEED Accredited Professional, and serves as chair of the Multifamily Homes Group for Efficiency First.
