Texas Schools Track Energy Efficiency Using New Commercial Buildings Benchmarking Tool
The Tagos Group, LLP chose Building Performance Compass to benchmark educational facilities across 76 school districts in Texas. The study supports a market transformation program to reduce energy use among K-12, colleges and universities sponsored by the largest regulated electric distribution and transmission company in Texas. Building Performance Compass provides state energy efficiency programs, weatherization agencies, and utilities with the resources necessary to track building energy. Compass assists organizations such as building portfolio managers, schools, municipalities, and regional climate change groups in meeting energy efficiency and carbon reduction goals. Building Performance Compass incorporates over 20 years of building performance experience from
Performance Systems Development (PSD). It builds on software developed by PSD for New York State
Energy Research Development Agency’s (NYSERDA) FOCUS on Commercial Real Estate program. That
project, currently benchmarking forty million square feet of commercial space in New York City,
empowers building owners to manage their energy consumption themselves. Building owners can
identify strategic opportunities for energy savings and carbon mitigation without the need for thirdparty
energy service providers.
Building Performance Compass ensures that utility and state energy program managers receive
comprehensive reporting for all energy efficiency improvement efforts; Building portfolio managers
know what impact behaviors and building improvements have on energy use over time; Building
owners view how their buildings perform against a national average using the EPA’s Portfolio Manager
and a peer comparison to similar buildings; Weatherization agencies have a central information hub,
improving program effectiveness for the increased efforts proscribed by this year’s stimulus funding;
and Contractors find a powerful analysis tools pinpointing areas of highest energy use to most
effectively use a customer’s budget and show how their work produces real results.
