Greg Thomas Named to Building Performance Institute Hall of Fame
Greg Thomas, President and CEO of Performance Systems Development, was inducted into the Building Performance Institute Hall of Fame at the opening plenary of the Affordable Comfort, Inc. national conference. The conference, held this year in Austin, TX, was attended by over 1800 industry professionals. The honor recognizes Thomas for his “significant and lasting contributions to the building performance industry over the course of his career.” Building Performance Institute Hall of Fame inductees are nominated by their peers and selected by a panel of current Hall of Fame members. Building Performance Institute, Inc. (BPI) is a nationally recognized organization that provides standards development and credentialing for residential energy efficiency retrofit work.
This week Thomas was also elected as vice chair of Efficiency First, the national energy retrofit contractors’ trade organization. Greg Thomas has been at the forefront of the building performance industry for more than thirty years. He is past president of Affordable Comfort, Inc. and served on its board for over fifteen years. He is currently on the board of the RESNET national energy raters organization.
Mr. Thomas envisioned and developed the first Home Performance program in the country and was the founder of the Building Performance Contractors Association of New York. Thomas was the first blower door trainer for the low-income weatherization programs in Pennsylvania and New York. He has been the educational program director for a number of national and international conferences, including the US Green Building Council national conference (GreenBuild). He has served as an advisor to a wide range of national and state entities, including NYSERDA, the DOE Weatherization Assistance Program, the Energy Foundation, and the California Energy Commission.
“I’m honored to be recognized for my work in building performance and energy efficiency, and it is a privilege to join such great company in the Hall of Fame,” said Thomas. “I think it’s an exciting time to be a part of this industry, and I look forward to the opportunities and challenges the future will bring.”
Thomas continues to supply visionary guidance to the building performance industry. He is currently working with legislators in Washington to craft language for the passage of HOME STAR, the multi-billion-dollar home energy federal jobs stimulus package, and supporting the development of data standards for transferring energy retrofit and energy usage information as part of an effort to enhance the efficiency of the energy efficiency industry.
