Course Description

This training prepares you to conduct diagnostic energy audits on existing housing stock, including measurement and verification services related to building analysis. The course will examine the integrated systems in a building that are responsible for the transfer and use of energy, for moisture transport, and air movement. This course is a carefully crafted balance of classroom presentations, field exercises, and self-study materials. Theory and practice are integrated with an emphasis on practical problem-solving, and culminates in Building Analyst (BA1) certification through the Building Performance Institute.

Training Objectives

  • Describe the process and purpose of home energy auditing, being able to communicate this to potential customers.
  • Perform field inspections and building diagnostics necessary to make meaningful recommendations for installation measures that will enhance comfort, health, safety, building durability, and energy savings.
  • Operate building modeling software to produce consumer-friendly energy audit reports.
  • Describe the follow-up process required for completion of the retrofit measures recommended.
